GLIDES (Global Learning Initiative through Digital Education for Students) is a technology initiative of the Broward County Public Schools. This GLIDES project was developed at Monarch High School in Coconut Creek, Florida.

More than 600 high school students + 20 teachers + digital cameras + video cameras + laptop computers + technology support + a desire to make a difference = The Power of One

These are the elements that led us to create "The Power of One" - a student organization whose mission is to become a change agent in our society.

Enabled by the latest technology tools, students researched social issues, their causes and effects - they delved deeply into issues that affect their community, their world. During their research, students started questioning what THEY could do to make a difference. From these discussions came the formation of the Power of One.

For the 2008-2008 school year, the GLIDES students decided to focus their energies on the environment; on recycling, reusing, renewing; on creating a greener school and community.
